What internet speed do I need?
There is no single answer, because it depends on what people do at the same time. This calculator lets you tick the activities that will run together, enter how many people will do them and returns a recommended minimum download speed with headroom.
The formula
Required speed = total of selected activities × people × 1.25. The activity values used are HD streaming 5 Mbps, 4K streaming 25 Mbps, video calls 3 Mbps, cloud backup 10 Mbps and online gaming 3 Mbps.
Example
Two people streaming HD at once need 5 × 2 = 10 Mbps. With 25% headroom the tool recommends about 12.5 Mbps.
Do not forget latency
Gaming and live calls depend on ping as well as bandwidth. If those matter most, check ping with the Ping & Latency Tool and keep the connection wired where you can.

Frequently asked questions about the Internet Speed Requirement Calculator
How many Mbps do I need to stream in 4K?
About 25 Mbps per 4K stream is the usual recommendation.
Is 50 Mbps enough for a family?
Often yes for moderate use, but several 4K streams, calls and downloads at once may need 100 Mbps or more.
Why does the calculator add 25%?
Real traffic bursts above the average, and the extra margin stops everything slowing down at once.
