Internet Data Usage Calculator
Build a monthly data estimate from daily activity and check if your plan is enough.
What is an internet data usage calculator?
This calculator estimates how many gigabytes you use each month based on how many hours you spend online and roughly how much data those hours consume. It is designed for people on capped or mobile plans who want to avoid overage charges or throttling.
The formula
Monthly data = hours per day × days × data per hour. The result is shown in GB, with an average per-day figure to help you spot heavy days.
Example
Four hours a day for 30 days at 250 MB per hour is 4 × 30 × 250 = 30,000 MB, or 30 GB per month – about 1 GB a day.
Typical data per hour
- Browsing and social media: 50–150 MB
- Music streaming: 40–150 MB
- HD video: about 3 GB
- Video calls: 0.5–2.5 GB

It depends on your habits. Light browsing may use 10–30 GB, while regular HD streaming can exceed 100 GB. Use the calculator with your own hours.
How can I reduce my data usage?
Lower video quality, download content on Wi-Fi, turn off auto-play and pause automatic cloud backups on mobile data.
What happens if I go over my data cap?
Providers may throttle your speed or charge extra. Check your plan terms and keep a safety margin above the estimate.
